Vanadzor State University

Vclip_image001vandazoanadzor State University/VSU (formerly Vanadzor State Pedagogical Institute) is situated in Armenia, Lori region, Vanadzor. The university is located at 36 Tigran Mets Str. VSU was founded in 1969 as an institution which specialized in training teachers. Later it became a pedagogical institute and in June 2014 it turned into a university.

The university mightily strives to become a higher educational institution meeting international standards, deliver qualified and employable graduates, pursue innovative research as well as undertaking effective socio-cultural and enlightening activities.

Over 3000 students are offered full-time and part-time education. They are awarded BA and MA degrees. VSU academic staff consists of about 300 people 163 of whom are candidates of sciences, 15 are doctors. Education at VSU is delivered in the relevant departments of the following faculties:

VSU staff and administration have always put great emphasis on international cooperation, which has become particularly active over the last few years. It is involved in ERASMUS MUNDUS programme (IANU S and EMINENCE projects), as well as in a number of Tempus-funded projects, namely: MAHATMA (Education Management) coordinated by Armenian State Pedagogical University; LeAGUe coordinated by Linneaus University; SSRULLI coordinated by Tbilisi State University; VERITAS coordinated by State Medical University (Armenia), GOVERN coordinated by Academy of Arts (Armenia).

Sofya Babayan PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, author of over 80 scientific articles on linguistics, gender studies, educational reforms; participant in and facilitator of a number of master classes, workshops and conferences in Armenia, Russia, Europe and the USA (Professionals for Development; Women and Politics. Planning the Changes Support of Democracy; Women in Disaster Zones and the Transition Period; Women- Voters; For Steady Development of Society, etc); founder of the young citizens’ club “Who Is Who” and the department of “Useful Knowledge”; expert of the 1st Gender School “Institutionalization of Gender Education in Armenia”; Guest speaker at a conference held at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (Germany).

Sofy Sargsyan PhD in Philology; Associate Professor; Head of the Chair of Foreign Languages; author of more than 9 scientific articles; Project Volunteer Organizer – “Project Smile”, Grant authorized by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the United States Department of State and administered by International Research and Exchange Board (IREX); Project Volunteer – “Alumni Small” Grant authorized by the ECA and administered by IREX; assisted the project directors to organize nine meetings for the University Students based on “Say No to Smoking”; member of Association of Young Scientists; member of Association of the European Society for the Study of English (Armenian Association for the Study of English – ASSE); member of Association of English Language Teachers of Armenia (AELTA).

Arpine Petrosyan PhD in Phology, Lecturer of Translation Theory, the English Language at VSU Chair of Foreign Languages; English Language Instructor in the Centre of Languages at VSU; Senior Specialist at VSU Department of Cooperation and Relations; Participant in the Scientific Conference on New Tendencies in the Study of Language and Mind; Participant in ECCE MUNDUS contact seminar in Budapest, Hungary; member of the working groups of the Tempus-funded projects MAHATMA, LeAGUe, SSRULLI.
